Last week, the Beau Photo Rental Department was blessed with our newest piece of gear, the long awaited Canon EOS R5 mirrorless body! It was a long time coming, as Canon Canada had graciously loaned me early production R5 & R6 bodies back in July, 2020! I was thoroughly impressed with the camera so I was eagerly waiting a production unit to use out in the field again. As with the Nikon Z7 II body I wrote about in a previous blog posting, I took out the R5 out to Burnaby Lake again, this time attached to my Canon 600mm f4L lens with the Canon EOS EF~RF Adapter. The lighting this day was a little harsh, but the incredible dynamic range of the files let me bring down highlights and lift the shadows quite a bit. The animal eye/face detection worked like a charm, and even drove my 21 year old lens in continuous AF mode with a high rate of reliability when tracking fast flying birds!
Note: the bear photo was taken in July with an early production unit back in July 2020….I’m not sure if the little cub disliked me or was a Nikon fan or both!
