Hans Sipma began photographing musicians in the 1970’s, often in a borrowed department store studio (first The Bay, later Eaton’s) where by day, he shot everything from fashion to furniture. His after-hours work brought him to the attention of Vancouver talent agents like Bruce Allen and Sam Feldman, and through them, to soon-to-be legends like Bryan Adams, Doug & the Slugs and Trooper. The budgets were small, the hair was big, and digital didn’t exist, so “making it work” took a lot of late nights and a lot of ingenuity. Hans hopes you enjoy this look back at the boys in the bands – some famous, some forgotten, all part of Vancouver music history.
