The Favourite Camera Series – Chris

When asked, Chris Evans replied:

1. If you were to choose a favourite film camera from your collection which would it be?

My favourite camera is usually the one I’m currently shooting with, so I’ll write about my first favourite camera, the Lomo LC-A.

2. How long have you owned this camera?

I first got this camera in March 1998, and after over 1000 rolls and quite a few bumps off the sidewalk it finally gave up the ghost in March 2010.

3. How did you come to own this camera?

I first heard about this camera from a newspaper article. I couldn’t buy one since there were no local dealers at the time and I couldn’t find anyone willing to use their credit card over that newfangled internet thing. I noticed it was available C.O.D. to European addresses. So I convinced my sister who was living in Holland at the time that she really missed me and wanted me to visit. I ordered it the day I arrived and got it a few days before I left. The included photo is from my first roll of film, shot in an Amsterdam tram.

4. What things do you enjoy most about this camera?

It’s fun to shoot in the lomographic style. I’d get the film developed and printed at a local grocery store, back when grocery stores still did such things. They had a policy of printing everything, but only charging for the photos that turned out. But what “turned out” is very subjective and I got many of my best lomographs developed and printed for free, occasionally including entire rolls. Damn I miss those days.
